For our next meeting
(06/23/2011) Veritas will follow up on last week's discussion on "What Happens at Mass" with reflections on our experience at Mass this past Sunday.

Newsweek has an article quoting the president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as well as an insurance executive as saying that incidents of sexual abuse are no higher within the Church than within other religious denominations. The article also states that the rate of abuse by Catholic priests is not higher than that of the general American male population.

What We're About

We are a group of Catholics who come together to support one another in our Faith and to grow in knowledge of the Faith through prayer, discussion, service, and camaraderie.

 

Veritas FAQs

Who's invited? Anyone who's interested. We welcome all ages, single and married, male and female, quiet and spirited, from all walks of life and with varied perspectives, locals and those from halfway around the world. Stop in any Thursday and check us out.

When and Where? We usually get together on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. We meet in the library on the ground floor of St. Mary's Priory on 5 Hillhouse Ave in New Haven. Most meetings last about an hour.

What do you do? Our activities include:

• Scripture discussions and meditation.
• Discussions of faith-related and theological topics. Recent examples include The Communion of Saints, The Nicene Creed and Just War Theory
• Prayer
• Community Service (annual Christmas toy drive, Spring food drive, volunteer work for Birthright)
• Frequent social outings (parties, concerts, skiing and tennis, Anna Liffey's Pub, mini golf)
